The deputy of VOX for Jaén, Francisco Jose Alcaraz, deputy spokesperson at the Interior Commission, intervened in it to ask Rafael Perez, Secretary of State for Security, for the situation that the thousands of prison officials in our country are going through during the pandemic. "Other groups worry about murderers or terrorists, perhaps by affinity, we worry about officials," he remarked at the beginning of his intervention.
Alcaraz recalled that penitentiary centers continue to be inaugurated while the prison staff has fallen in more than three thousand workers in the last decade, a situation that has worsened with the arrival of Covid-19. "There has been the situation that two officials have had to be there to control 140 inmates," he recalled, while highlighting the example of Aranjuez "where the prisoners themselves congratulated the officials for the effort they have made."
Alcaraz stressed that "the Ombudsman himself had to make a statement in the face of the lack of resources and personnel suffered by Spanish prisons." In that sense, he recalled that up to a thousand casualties have been produced at the same time in the staff of national prisons. For this reason, the VOX deputy asked «What does the Government intend to do to alleviate this situation?«.
