The Vice President of the Government, Minister of the Presidency, Relations with the Courts and Equality in office, Carmen Calvo, inaugurated the International Classical Theater Festival of Almagro This year celebrates its 42nd edition and in the words of Calvo is "one of the treasures of the classic theater of our Golden Age".

Accompanied by the Minister of Culture and Sport in office, José Guirao, among other authorities, the vice president stressed that "we have to continue protecting the heritage of classical theater" because "it is a luck in the way of assuming knowledge and questioning continuously" .

"Almagro is a point of reflection and exceptional exchange for theater fans" said the acting vice president, who has advanced that this year the event has a feminist vocation: "Thanks to the collaboration of the Ministry of Culture, the Ministry of Equality and the Women's Institute, the Festival focuses with its programming and activities on the memory of the classic authors, focusing on a character as important as Sor Juana Ines de la Cruz, and contemporary authors, thus giving an important presence to the women".

During the opening ceremony, Carmen Calvo presented the Corral de Comedias Award to actress Adriana Ozores, an award that in the words of the acting vice president is "a recognition of a magnificent actress with a great professional career and multiple records".

The world of theater has also paid homage to Adolfo Marsillach. The Hospital de San Juan, one of the most important stage spaces of the International Classical Theater Festival of Almagro, has been renamed Teatro Adolfo Marsillach. The acting vice president has discovered a commemorative plaque with the family of one of the best authors and directors of the Spanish theater: "He traced all the paths to enhance classic theater in the 80s," he said.

Carmen Calvo has also inaugurated the exhibition "Art and provocation, copy as a scenic genre", a graphic journey through the history of the copla, organized by the National Museum of Theater.

"Here is a part of the emotional history of very difficult times in our country, as were the civil war and the dictatorship, many people have buried their memory in the artists who are represented here in the Spanish copla," said the vice president.
