Holders of their statements before the media:

  • He denounces that “Pedro Sánchez has already decided that he wants to go to elections” and tries to hide it with propaganda and meetings, “like the one he had yesterday with Podemos”, and that is irresponsibility
  • He says the PSOE "is playing with the Spaniards" and could add a government with Podemos and the nationalists "as they have done in seven autonomous communities, in ten provincial capitals and in ten deputies"
  • “I will not be the one who wants that Government for Spain,” he continues, “but what we are not going to do is to launder an electoral strategy that is either aimed at humiliating Podemos, or it is aimed at removing a handful of seats at the expense of the budget and the patience of the Spaniards ”
  • He denounces that Pedro Sánchez “prefers to continue working and without governing Spain despite the unemployment figures we have known this week and the pulse that Quim Torra gives him from Catalonia”
  • Remember that today marks two years that the Parliament passed the disconnection laws "which were the beginning of that coup to the State that ended the unilateral declaration of independence"
  • He regrets that all the statements of Quim Torra were not followed by "a rectification or complaint by the Government of Spain." "That is very worrying because Torra has already said that they will do the same thing again and, if the sentence is unfavorable, call back the rebellion and the confrontation of the Catalans in the streets," he warns.
  • He points out that the Government of Spain "should respond to this instead of meeting with ERC to try to disguise those negotiations"

The vice president of the Group of the European People's Party (PPE) in the European Parliament, Esteban González Pons, said today that "Brexit management must be the main priority of the European Union (EU) in the short term."

González Pons has represented the European People's Group, the largest political group in the European Parliament, in the meeting that the leaders of the political forces of this chamber have held in Helsinki with Finnish Prime Minister Antti Rinne and with the ministers of his government to prepare the current rotating presidency of the EU, which the Nordic country will hold until the end of this year.

The leaders of the European Parliament have also met with the main spokesmen and representatives of the Finnish Parliament.

In his interventions, González Pons recalled that "the way in which Brexit is produced will mark the course of the EU in the short and medium term", so he has defended the need to avoid a Brexit without agreement.

The vice president of the PPE Group has also stressed that other important priorities of the Finnish presidency for these coming months may be the management of illegal immigration, to try to move towards a common European policy, and the negotiation of community budgets for the period 2021- 2027

González Pons has also pointed out as other issues that should be emphasized in the fight against climate change, the improvement of the competitiveness of the EU – taking into account the threat of a global trade war – security, or reinforcement of the rule of law within the EU.

In addition, he recalled that all these challenges must be managed while the European Commission changes, as the next community executive to be chaired by Úrsula Von der Leyen will begin his term on November 1.

González Pons has guaranteed the cooperation of the PPE Group with the EU institutions to face all these challenges in the coming months.

Holders of their statements before the media:

  • It announces that the Constitutional Court has admitted to today the appeal for unconstitutionality presented by the PP in Congress and in the Senate, to the Basque Law on police abuse, "which seriously insults the Police and the Civil Guard."
  • “The PP is the only one that defends the FCSE, who defend us from those who want to limit our rights and freedoms,” he emphasizes.
  • He accuses Sánchez of opening an “auction with the CIS, the CNMV, ministries and powers” so that the highest bidder is his Government partner. "Today the Spaniards do not need an auction but programmatic agreements that improve their lives," he says.
  • "If Sanchez is not able to agree, the PP will be at the polls offering a project with Pablo Casado in front," he says.
  • He emphasizes that "the PP is prepared to face an election if Sanchez blocks the formation of his own Government." “The PP will put on the table a moderate, calm, forceful and firm option on important, but inclusive, issues. A project that adds everyone to end this auction and with this grotesque show, ”he adds.
  • He says that "those who agreed a year ago – alluding to the motion of censure – today would do so again if it were not for discrepancies in the distribution of sites."
  • It contrasts the freedom project aimed at improving the lives of the citizens of the Canary Islands PP, which has been renewed at the regional and insular level, with that of the socialist Ángel Victor Torres who is an ally of Pedro Sánchez and “who does not claim funding Autonomous for the Islands ”.
  • He affirms that “in the Canary Islands it has been noted that the left governs because the tourism sector has declined”, which shows that “the failed project of the left has its greatest exponent in the Canary Islands”.

The GPP considers that this Law offends victims of terrorism and equates victims with executioners

The GPP shows its satisfaction with the admission to proceedings, by the Constitutional Court, of the appeal of unconstitutionality to Law 5/2019 of April 4, against the Basque Law of victims of police abuse on July 15.

The PP in the Senate, presented that appeal alleging that it could “violate the principle of rule of law and the submission of public powers to the Constitution; the right to effective judicial protection and the presumption of innocence; the principle of legal certainty and invading State powers ”.

The admission to process of the mentioned resource signed by fifty senators of the Popular Party, does not result in the automatic suspension of the contested legal precepts, except in the event that the President of the Government resorts to a Law, provision or act with force of law of an Autonomous Community and expressly request in the application the suspension of its validity and application.

The Law, in the opinion of the GPP, supposes the open affirmation that Spain is not a Rule of Law and invades the exclusive competence of the State in matters of Administration of Justice and Public Security.

Similarly, the popular argue in their appeal that this Law offends victims of terrorism, equates victims with executioners and represents an insult and an infamy to the work of the Police and Civil Guard in the fight against terrorism.

Now, as established by the Law, a period of fifteen days is opened, so that Congress, as well as the Senate, Government of the Nation and Parliament and Government of the Basque Country, can appear in the process and formulate the allegations they deem appropriate.

The president of Cs affirms that, in Catalonia, 'the separatist tsunami has already devastated living together, the most important thing in democracy'

"Torra can comply with the laws and be a Democrat or break them and become a criminal." This has been said by the president of Citizens (Cs), Albert Rivera, accompanied by the spokeswoman for the party's executive, Lorena Roldán, and the orange spokeswoman at the Congress of Deputies, Inés Arrimadas, after meeting with the parliamentary group of Cs in the Parliament of Catalonia on the second anniversary of the coup of September 6 and 7, 2017.

Rivera has affirmed that, in democracy, "the only way is to comply and apply the laws" and has warned the President of the Generaliat, Quim Torra, "that there is no democracy outside the constitution." "Torra already announces that he will not comply with the judgments," he said, and recalled that "Puigdemont took selfies with judicial notices and is now running away from justice." The orange leader has pointed out that "nobody has done as much damage to the self-government of Catalonia as the separatists" and explained that "since the coup of Tejero had not seen an attack on Spanish democracy of such magnitude."

The president of Cs has affirmed that, in Catalonia, "the separatist tsunami has already devastated with coexistence, the most important value in democracy", in addition to having harmed "the economy, citizen security and institutional respect". “They swept the Parlament in 2017 and now they keep it blocked, they have taken the prestige of Catalonia in the world,” Rivera lamented and urged Torra to “abandon the separatist route and recognize the Constitution”

He pointed out that in Catalonia “it is time to articulate a social and parliamentary majority for coexistence, that respects what we have built together and looks to the future” so that “the Parliament will again be a reference and not the democratic shame in the which has become". Finally, he has also shown his support for the current orange spokesperson in the Parliament and future candidate for the presidency of the Generalitat, Lorena Roldán, stating that it is "the best candidate" to lead the constitutionalist project in Catalonia.

The Popular Parliamentary Group has claimed today the appearance of all the ministers in charge of Pedro Sánchez to report on the activity of their respective departments since last May. The 16 acting ministers of Sanchez should give an account of their work throughout these months in the corresponding Commissions of Congress.

In this regard, the GPP has requested that the acting vice president, Carmen Calvo, appear both in the Constitutional Commission and in the Equality Commission. In the case of the acting minister Luis Planas, the GPP has demanded that he intervene both in the Committee on Agriculture, Fisheries and Food and in the Territorial Policy and Public Function; since last May, after the appointment of the current president of the Congress, Meritxell Batet, assumed the ordinary dispatch of matters related to this matter.

The vice president of the Group of the European People's Party (PPE) in the European Parliament, Esteban González Pons, said today that "we still have time to prevent Brexit from becoming a crisis of very serious consequences, especially for the United Kingdom but also for the countries of the European Union (EU) and for citizens of both sides."

"Time is running against us because we are less than two months from the date of departure on October 31, so we must intensify efforts to avoid a Brexit without agreement," said González Pons during a meeting in Helsinki with representatives of the civil society of Finland, in which it has represented the PPE group, the largest in the European Parliament.

"The EU has done its job to deal with Brexit in the best conditions and signed with the former British Prime Minister, Theresa May, a reasonable exit agreement, but now the ball is on the roof of the British political class," he explained in reference to the last decisions of Prime Minister Boris Johnson and the British Parliament on Brexit.

"At this time we do not even know if the United Kingdom will effectively leave the EU on October 31, we do not even know if on that date Boris Johnson will continue to lead the British government," said González Pons.

"Brexit is already bad news, but the worst option would be to continue with this uncertainty and arrive at the end of October with an uncontrolled situation, because this would have direct negative consequences for citizens," insisted the Vice President of the PPE Group .

Today's meeting with representatives of the civil society of Finland has taken place in the context of the visit that the Conference of Presidents of the political groups of the European Parliament – and in which González Pons represents the PPE Group – makes today and tomorrow to Helsinki on the occasion of the rotating EU presidency that Finland semesters this semester.
