CEOE has warned about the situation that can create in several Spanish products the announcement, by the US government, of raising tariffs on products imported from the EU. Entrepreneurs want to express their concern about this measure of the US Administration and warn of the negative effect that this scenario would have on Spanish products, especially for the agri-food industry.

The Spanish businessmen ask the Government of Spain and the authorities of the European Union the maximum collaboration and effort to avoid the imposition of tariffs, which will begin to apply from October 18. Specific, These charges will affect European products related to textiles, civil aviation, metallurgy, machinery and the agri-food sector. In Spain it will affect agri-food products (with an additional tariff of 25%) and certain civil aircraft (10%).

Among the agri-food products most affected by this measure include olive oil, olives, pig products, wines and spirits, cheeses, yogurts, butter, fruit, (including oranges, lemons, peaches, clementines and cherries), juices of fruit and vegetables, fruit jellies, cookies and clams, among others.

Spain annually exports agrifood products to the United States for a value close to 2,000 million euros, of which fruits and vegetables, olive oil, wine and spirits, cheeses and meat products are almost 75% of total agri-food exports.
