The PP Spokesperson in the European Parliament, Dolors Montserrat, said today that the result of the COP25 held in Madrid in recent days shows that "the EU leadership is not enough" to effectively combat climate change and therefore "the EU not only has to lead, but also convince the big polluting countries ”to take action in this regard.

"Europe has done its homework in this area, but the problem is that only Europe does them, not the others," Montserrat lamented during a debate held at the Plenary Session of the European Parliament to evaluate the results of the Madrid meeting.

In the fight against climate change, he explained, “we need more ambition from countries that are big emitters; we need to protect employment and the economy so as not to leave anyone behind; and we need to unlock the multiannual EU budget. ”

Dolors Montserrat has also advocated that serious work be done on proposals such as the Green Pact presented last week by the European Commission, because the fight against climate change "is not something banal, it is something vital and everyone's responsibility."

"If we wait for Greta Thunberg to solve all our problems, we are very wrong," said the popular spokeswoman, who also stressed that "we have to overcome the barriers imposed by both the denial of the extreme right and the hysteria of the radical left." .

Ultimately, Montserrat explained, "we must take note of the results of COP25 so as not to fail," although he stressed that in this meeting "what has been successful has been the organization" led by Mayor Martínez Almeida and the president of the Community, Isabel Díaz Ayuso.
