Equality condemns a new macho murder in Fuenlabrada in a tragic week

The Equality Ministry condemns a new sexist murder yesterday March 19 in Almazora, Castellón province. The 35-year-old woman was allegedly stabbed by her husband, also 35, at her home. They had two minor children and there is no record of previous complaints against the alleged aggressor. With this confirmation, the number of women murdered due to gender violence has reached 17 so far in 2020, with 1,050 being the total number of women murdered since 2003, when data collection began.

The Minister of Equality, Irene Montero and the delegate of the Government against Gender Violence, Victoria Rosell, express their absolute condemnation and rejection of this new sexist murder and transfer all their support to the families and friends of the victim. These deaths are a scourge for Spanish society that points out, even more so, the urgency of establishing a solution with the means and resources to avoid new sexist killings.

In this sense, the Ministry of Equality, together with the Government Delegation against Gender Violence, remind that states of house confinement can multiply situations of gender, domestic and sexual violence. In order to face this situation generated by the COVID19 crisis, the Government has declared essential services for the care of victims of gender violence, in order to guarantee its full functioning. For this reason, and as established in the Contingency Plan against gender violence during the COVID19 crisis, new instruments will be presented in the coming days to accompany victims during their confinement.

The Ministry of Equality, through the Government Delegation against Gender Violence, also wishes to recall the existence of the telephone service for information and legal advice on gender violence, through the abbreviated dial telephone number 016. AND also the possibility of doing it by email sent an email to 016-online@mscbs.es.
