The Secretary of State for Tourism, Isabel Oliver, has chaired an extraordinary meeting of the executive council of the Spanish Tourism Council (CONESTUR) – the second in less than fifteen days – to exchange updated information on the coronavirus with representatives of the autonomous communities, the tourism sector and economic and social agents.

The meeting, which was partially held by videoconference, also included the deputy director general for Environmental Health and Public Health, Fernando Carreras; the Deputy Director General for Arbitration and Consumer Rights, Alicia Menéndez; the deputy director of Strategy and Services for the Turespaña Sector, Elvira Marcos; and the head of Aena's Airport Services, Maintenance and Quality Division, Gema Martín.

All the members of the executive council of Conestur have thanked the publication of the Guide of good practices for the tourism sector and its workers – the elaboration of which was agreed at the previous council meeting – considering it “very necessary, complete and useful”.

The Secretary of State for Tourism started the meeting remembering that “we are facing a global emergency in which collaboration and involvement of all is necessary to get out of this situation as soon as possible and in the best possible way. In a crisis like this, people and their health come first, but it is also a priority for the Government to safeguard companies to maintain employment and, therefore, we are working on a comprehensive package of measures. ”

For its part, the deputy director of Strategy of Turespaña explained that they are monitoring daily, through its 33 offices abroad, the situation in the issuing markets while they are already working on the preparation of a promotion plan to launch once this crisis is over.

The members of the executive council have agreed to hold periodic, weekly or biweekly meetings depending on the evolution of the situation, to continue coordinating and exchanging information.
