The Minister of Industry, Commerce and Tourism, Reyes Maroto, chaired this Monday an extraordinary meeting of the Tourism Sector Conference, convened by the Secretary of State for Tourism to analyze together with the Autonomous Communities and Cities the impact of COVID-19 on the entire value chain of the tourism sector and to reinforce the cooperation mechanisms.

At the meeting, which was held entirely by videoconference, updated data was exchanged on the impact caused by the pandemic and it was agreed to develop a close collaboration between the Government and the Autonomous Communities to return tourists to their countries of origin and residence. usual in the shortest possible time, as well as coordinate measures aimed at responding to the economic impact caused by COVID-19.

Reyes Maroto has detailed the work that the Ministry has been carrying out -in the framework of the indications of the Technical Committee for the Management of the Coronavirus and of the provisions of Royal Decree Law 463/2020, of March 14- as well as possible measures to be adopted by the Government short term. The Secretary of State for Tourism will enable a mailbox to receive information from the Autonomous Communities and will give visibility on its website to the measures adopted, from which the tourism sector may benefit, to facilitate its dissemination and communication.

Councilors, vice-councilors, general secretaries or directors of Tourism from fifteen Autonomous Communities and the Autonomous City of Ceuta have participated in the session. It has been agreed to hold a meeting next Friday to monitor the situation.

Throughout the week there will also be extraordinary meetings of the Sectoral Conferences of Commerce and Industry.
