La vicesecretaria de Política Social, Cuca Gamarra

He will ask Calviño how the crisis caused by tariffs will affect our economy

The Deputy Secretary of Social Policy of the Popular Party and deputy for La Rioja, Cuca Gamarra, will ask tomorrow, during the control session to the Government in the Lower House, the third vice president and minister of Economic Affairs and Digital Transformation, Nadia Calviño, how can affect in the progress of our economy the crisis caused by the tariffs that have been imposed on certain Spanish products.

During her intervention, the popular leader will require the Executive to defend the interests of the agri-food sector, fundamental in La Rioja, and to redouble the pressure so that tariffs are reversed as soon as possible. The Deputy Secretary of the PP and deputy for La Rioja considers it unacceptable that the agricultural sector suffers the consequences of the imposition of tariffs that are "harmful to all" and regrets the inaction of the Government regarding this matter.

It should be remembered that, by volume of sales, the two most affected products are wine, with almost 300 million euros, and olive oil, with about 400 million euros.

Spanish wine and, therefore, DOCa Rioja wine, is suffering a drop in its turnover of up to 25% in the United States, while the olive sector expects to stop exporting in 2020 about 150,000 tons of oil (about 15% of its global exports) as a result of the new commercial rates.
