González Laya, who has attended the telematic meeting held by videoconference with the High Representative Josep Borrell and the rest of the European counterparts, has insisted that "we must strengthen European consular coordination to facilitate the return of our tourists to their homes." For this, the priority is now through commercial flights that allow solving the problems encountered by tourists who want to leave the countries where they are.
Despite the increasing difficulties due to the closure of airspaces and the restrictions on quarantines, Spain has highlighted the priority of putting the return of tourists and those in a more vulnerable situation. It has also expressed its concern about the spread of the virus in structurally fragile regions and, therefore, supported the study of taking measures in favor of countries in need.
On the other hand, in the fight against disinformation, the minister has indicated that we must work better and learn the lessons of what is being done. In his opinion, it is a critical aspect that should contribute to preparing a narrative in defense of the European Union.
The High Representative has offered the European Union delegations in all the countries of the world to coordinate with the Embassies of the Member States the available means of travel and their distribution among European tourists with difficulties in returning to their countries. At this meeting, the foreign ministers shared their analysis on the geostrategic consequences of the coronavirus crisis.
