Grande-Marlaska appreciates the "magnificent work" of the Civil Guard Traffic Group during the storm Filomena

During the storm, the Traffic Sector has carried out 1,528 aid and rescued 403 people. Of the 3,500 vehicles that were trapped by the snow, the traffic officers removed 299 from the main roads of the Community of Madrid

The Minister of the Interior, Fernando Grande-Marlaska, visited the facilities of the Madrid Traffic Sector of the Traffic Group of the Civil Guard this Friday to convey to the agents his gratitude for the "magnificent work" they are doing on the occasion of the Filomena and the cold wave.

During the tour, the Minister of the Interior was accompanied by the Secretary of State for Security, Rafael Pérez; the general director of the Civil Guard, María Gámez; the undersecretary of the Interior, Isabel Goicoechea; and the general director of Traffic, Pere Navarro, in addition to the Corps commanders.
Grande-Marlaska has held a meeting with the heads of the Madrid Traffic Sector where the Chief Colonel, Benito Monzón, has informed him of the reported incidents and the management and coordination that has been carried out since last January 7 on the occasion of of the storm. Likewise, he has visited the Command and Control Center where the service patrols are supervised and managed throughout the territory of the Community of Madrid.
From the center, the Minister spoke to the patrols that were on duty this morning by radio and thanked them for their work, their effort during these days where they have doubled and tripled work shifts and have once again demonstrated that meritorious character that the Civil Guard has in its DNA.
“I want to convey to you, on behalf of the Government of Spain, our appreciation for the magnificent work you have done during the cold and snowy storm that hit the country these days. You have once again demonstrated the courage, professionalism and spirit of sacrifice that characterize the Civil Guard ”, the minister told them.

TRAFFIC SECTOR

The headquarters of the Traffic Sector of the Civil Guard is located in Madrid Capital and is made up of 2 Subsectors (Madrid North and South) and 9 traffic detachments, 8 report teams and 1 Investigation Group. It has a staff of about 650 agents to cover the road safety of 79% of the territory of the Community of Madrid.
To provide this service, the Traffic Sector has 186 vehicles of which 61 are 4×4 vehicles and 199 are motorcycles.
During the Filomena storm, the Traffic Sector has carried out 1528 aid and rescued 403 people. Of the 3,500 vehicles that were trapped by the snow, traffic officers removed 299 from the main roads of the Community of Madrid.
Likewise, these services were performed by 397 patrols throughout the Community. It should be noted that due to the difficulties encountered by the storm that led to many of the agents having problems getting to the work centers or returning home, shifts had to be doubled to cover incidents.
