Acting Interior Minister Fernando Grande-Marlaska has presented today the solidarity calendar of the Civil Guard 2020 for the benefit of the DEBRA-Butterfly Skin Association that works to improve the quality of life of people suffering from butterfly skin or Bullous epidermolysis. The benefits obtained with the sale of the calendar will be entirely destined to cover the expenses derived from the patients and families affected by this disease.

Grande-Marlaska has taken advantage of the commemoration of the 71 anniversary of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights, promulgated on December 10, 1948, to remember that “only through the inclusion and respect for diversity is the full exercise of the rights and our full realization as people ”. He has defended in this sense the perseverance and the efforts that associations such as DEBRA make every day, which with their experience and team of professionals help families to understand these types of diseases that, sometimes, as a result of ignorance produce social rejection.
The acting Interior Minister has congratulated all the agents who have participated in the elaboration of the calendar and has been very satisfied with the “social solidarity attitude” of the Civil Guard that, he stressed, “is increasingly recognized by its actions for the benefit of inclusion and respect for diversity ”.
In the presentation of this fifth solidarity calendar, Grande-Marlaska has been accompanied by the General Director of the Civil Guard, Felix Azón; as well as by association staff, families and members of the benemérita who have participated in the calendar.
During the last four years, the Civil Guard dedicated its solidarity calendars in favor of the Down Madrid, Juegateria foundations, the NGO Rosa del Desierto and the foundation of the Hospital of Paraplegics of Toledo, of which more than 80,000 copies were sold.
The 2020 edition of the solidarity calendar, which can be purchased for a price of five euros, shows different photographs that show people suffering from this disease along with civil guards, belonging to units such as SEPRONA, Special Group of Underwater Activities (GEAS) , GAR, GRS, Criminalistics Service, Cynology, Cavalry Squadron, Citizen Security, Traffic Grouping, Mountain, Air, TEDAX and the College of Young Guards "Duke of Smoked."

Solidarity body

If there is something that characterizes the Civil Guard since its foundation, it is precisely the meritorious character that is reflected not only in the numerous humanitarian services that it carries out in the performance of its tasks, but also in its solidarity actions or for the benefit of society , carried out their obligations.
During the past year, Civil Guard personnel carried out more than a hundred solidarity actions, mainly related to volunteering, such as campaigns to collect food, school supplies, medical or toys; collaborations with NGOs, s, or solidarity careers. Likewise, almost 13,000 talks were held in schools, about 4,000 activities aimed at the safety of the elderly and more than 2,600 actions were carried out in favor of society, such as open houses, exhibitions, exhibitions or visits to schools.
All these activities are framed within the scope of corporate CSR and GCompromised.

The DEBRA-Butterfly Skin Association

The Association DEBRA-Piel de Mariposa, a non-profit organization, works to improve the quality of life of people suffering from butterfly skin or bullous epidermolysis, a disease whose main and most visible characteristic is the extreme fragility of the skin of those They suffer from it and its associated limitations, since the slightest rubbing in daily chores can cause wounds, blisters and skin detachments, accompanied by intense pain.
It is a disease of which there is little knowledge, and therefore the family of a baby with butterfly skin founded in 1993 this Association in order to support, train and accompany both affected families and professionals. Precisely, the mother (president of the Association) and her son Iñigo have been in charge of telling us their experience during the presentation of this solidarity calendar.
Among the main activities carried out by Debra are:

  • Training of socio-health professionals in public and private spheres.
