Health performs a study on the incidence of COVID-19 in people with HIV on antiretroviral treatment

The results suggest that the diagnostic risk of COVID-19 is not higher in HIV-positive people than in the general population. Furthermore, they show that HIV-positive people receiving TDF / FTC treatment have a lower risk of COVID-19 infection and hospitalization than other HIV-positive people with other treatment regimens. The patients were classified according to the antiretroviral treatment they received.

The research has been carried out in 60 hospitals throughout Spain. The risk of diagnosis, hospitalization, ICU admission and mortality of 77,590 HIV-infected patients on antiretroviral treatment have been compiled and analyzed. Of these, 236 were diagnosed with COVID-19 disease, 151 were hospitalized, 15 were admitted to the ICU, and 20 died.
