It must be borne in mind that in the months of January, February, May and June 2019, respectively, there were strikes in the taxi sector, general strikes in Catalonia and those in the education and metal sector.

According to this report, in June 2019, 33 strikes were initiated, seconded by 30,134 workers and 1,083,792 hours of work were lost -including the losses in strikes that began in previous months and that have continued in June-, which represent 0.04% of the monthly work hours of all employed workers. It is necessary to emphasize the special incidence in quantitative terms of the strike in the sector of the metal of Vizcaya.

In addition, another 2,766 workers who participate in strikes that started months earlier remain on strike in June.

Compared these figures with those of June 2018, the number of strikes decreases -10.81% over 37 of the same month of 2018-, but the number of workers seconding them -12.273 in June 2018- increases and the hours of work losses -493,992 in June 2018-.

Strictly work

In June there were 23 strikes of a strictly labor nature, seconded by 25,115 workers, in which 877,284 hours of work were lost. In relation to the same month of the previous year, the number of strikes decreased – 11.54% – although the workers involved increased – 6,164 in June 2018 – and the hours of work lost -302,656 in June of last year-.

Up to June, in strictly labor-related conflict, 190 strikes were recorded, involving 50,396 workers and 2,067,046 hours of work lost. In relation to the same period of 2018, the number of strikes decreases by 11.21%, and the number of workers participating in the strikes increases and the hours of work lost.

With regard to the conflict in companies or public services started in June 10 strikes, seconded by 5,019 workers. In this area 130,153 hours of work are lost, 12.01% of the strikes lost in the month, mainly due to the incidence of strikes in transport and health.

In relation to the same month of the previous year, in which there were nine strikes in the public sector, the hours of work lost decreased -30.30% over 186,736 hours lost in June 2018- and workers who support strikes – 10.41% compared to 5,602 in the same month of 2018.

With accumulated data, in the first six months of 2019 there are 100 strikes in companies or public services, seconded by 794,038 workers, in which 14,010,247 hours of work are lost. Thus, with respect to the same period of 2018, the hours of work lost, the workers participating in the strikes and the number of strikes increase.

As for the causes of the conflict, it should be noted that in June the processing of employment regulation files began two strikes, in which 365 workers participate and 3,608 hours of work are lost, 0.33% of the losses in that month.

By territorial areas, in June two strikes began with a national scope, with 759 workers involved who, together with those who supported strikes that had begun in previous months, stopped performing 50,568 hours of work, 4.67% of the losses in the month .

Among the autonomous communities, the Basque Country stands out with eight strikes, 27,146 direct participants and 856,888 lost hours of work, 79.06% of the hours not worked in the month; followed remotely by Madrid, with two strikes, 112 direct participants and 54,336 lost work hours, 5.01% of the hours not worked in the month.
