I feel the moments they are going through, I feel that they have to be at home and that they have probably had to undo their plans with their families, and also their work plans, and that they have to make a great effort for responsibility.
That is why I am appearing for the third time this week to tell you that we support the declaration of the state of alarm that the Prime Minister has anticipated and that will be approved by the Council of Ministers tomorrow.
Also, that, if it is necessary to extend it for more than fifteen days, as it seems that everything indicates, it will have the support of the Popular Party in Parliament, in its validation, as established by the Constitution.
We will rise to the occasion, and we will support the Government to approve the urgent and necessary measures that contain the expansion of this coronavirus pandemic.
We have already warned that yesterday's proposals from the Council of Ministers were clearly insufficient and that a single command was necessary in the face of a crisis such as what we are experiencing in Spain.
That the Government should stop suggesting and should go on to lead and give clear instructions to guarantee effective coordination in the emergency situation and health coordination that this pandemic is demanding.
What was an urgent need yesterday this morning has been a clamor when we have seen how the Lehendakari declared a health emergency in the Basque Country, that from Catalonia people were confined to the municipalities, that Madrid closed the closing of shops or that in Murcia limited the movements of people coming from other autonomous communities, or in Castilla y León formally requested the declaration of the state of alarm by letter.
The control of an epidemic does not attend to territorial, administrative or competence limits, so without firmness we could not win that battle.
Throughout these weeks, serious negligence has been committed by the Government, such as encouraging a massive demonstration, with thousands of people last Sunday. And it's gone in tow from the events. But there will be time to elucidate the responsibilities.
Now is the time to support extraordinary measures for extraordinary situations. Today, with the new instruments that the Government has and that the PP supports, it is time to go from going behind the events, to anticipating them. It is time to leave the lack of coordination and hesitation, to move on to firmness and determination.
The President of the Government will have the resources of this great country at his disposal with everyone starting tomorrow. And I ask that you use them with determination and responsibility.
I want once again to send all my support to the Spanish health professionals for the enormous effort they are making these days and I also want to extend it to the State Security Forces and Bodies, who will have to start doing it even more, from tomorrow, for the limitations that you can introduce the new restrictions of the alarm state.
Everything indicates that reality has exceeded forecasts and we will face difficult times.
But we are a great country, a great nation and we will overcome this crisis as we have always achieved our great achievements: with responsibility, sacrifice and solidarity among all Spaniards.
Thank you.
