The Minister of Education and Vocational Training, Isabel Celaá, and the Minister of Defense, Margarita Robles, both in office, have signed a collaboration protocol in the Cuatro Vientos air base (Madrid) to generalize the training of FP to the personnel of the Armed Forces, as well as accreditation procedures for professional competences.

"In this process of lifelong learning, Vocational Training is a key element in developing the qualifications of military personnel, and competent professionals are essential for the army's response capacity", assured Celaá.

The Ministry of Education and Vocational Training has worked to make possible a wide and flexible offer of Vocational Training of the educational system in the military educational centers, adapting its organization and functioning, with the aim of reinforcing the professional development and promoting the incorporation of the personnel of Troop and Mariner to the civil labor field when leaving the Armed Forces.

The protocol signed today includes the Get + program approved by the Ministry of Defense on May 14 and aimed at obtaining up to 15 Vocational Training Technician diplomas for personnel of the Troop and Mariner scales with a temporary commitment to the Armed forces. These can be taken in military teaching centers throughout the national territory and in missions abroad in remote format.

According to the program, published in the Official Gazette of the Ministry of Defense, personnel who are not in possession of a degree in Technical or Higher Vocational Training or a university degree will have priority to take these courses.

The document includes the titles of Cooking and Gastronomy, Electromechanics of automobile vehicles, Administrative management, Telecommunications installations, Electrical and automatic installations, Refrigeration and air conditioning installations, Electromechanical maintenance, Navigation and coastal fishing, Laboratory operations, Organization and maintenance of ship and boat machinery, microcomputer systems, welding and boilermaking, bodywork technician, road transport vehicle technician and, finally, sanitary emergency technician.

This collaboration protocol between both ministries will make the teaching more flexible, organizing them in semester modules and contemplating the distance modality. To this end, the Ministry of Education and Vocational Training will transfer the online materials of all the training courses offered and the platform used will be the Corporate Virtual Campus of the Ministry of Defense.

The two ministries intend to continue implementing other VET courses in the form of blended training in military units and accredited training centers of armies with a staff of accredited military and civilian professors.

Accreditation of professional competences

In addition, Margarita Robles and Isabel Celaá have signed an agreement, jointly with the Ministry of Education, Culture and Sports of the Government of Aragon, which will allow a procedure for the accreditation of specific professional competences for Troop and Mariner personnel.

Likewise, the Ministry of Education and Vocational Training will facilitate the incorporation of these military personnel as candidates in the next procedures of evaluation and accreditation of professional competences convened by the regional administrations.

"With these initiatives we are going to facilitate that the soldiers of our Armed Forces can obtain regulated degrees of FP that not only will reinforce their professionalism as military personnel, but also they will improve their personal training which, undoubtedly, will reinforce their employability, their labor insertion and their professional development when they decide to move on to civil life ", concluded the acting Minister of Education and Vocational Training.
