Macarena Olona, deputy for Granada and deputy spokesperson for the VOX Parliamentary Group in Congress, has urged the Government to promote urgent measures to reopen the 'Guadix-Baza-Almanzora-Lorca' railway section, thus ending the isolation of the regions of our province that for years have suffered unjust neglect by the Administration.
By means of a Proposal No of Law presented in the Transport, Mobility and Urban Agenda Committee, the VOX Parliamentary Group has demanded “the execution of an urgent Informative Study for the reopening of the railway section that runs through Guadix and Baza, belonging to the Murcia line -Granada, as well as the inclusion of an item in the 2021 General State Budgets to finance this report, "explained Macarena Olona.
“It is essential to end the isolation suffered by the people of Granada in these regions, who have been evicted without a decent rail connection, and for this we ask for the materialization of the Mediterranean Corridor in the sections between Granada, Almería and Murcia, in order to improve infrastructure and enable a better future for these areas, "insisted the VOX deputy.
Macarena Olona stressed the importance that "this opening will serve to reactivate the transit of travelers in Granada and boost the economy of the entire province of Granada, and will allow the fight against unemployment in regions such as Guadix and Baza, which show a notable loss of population in the last ten years as a result of the lack of opportunities «.
For his part, the VOX deputy in the Andalusian Parliament, Francisco Ocaña, has stated that “wherever the train passes, wealth and prosperity are generated, and this VOX initiative in Congress ends 35 years of socialist grievance against a region that lost its future in the mid-1980s when the line was dismantled. In addition, from VOX Andalucía we will continue to transfer ideas that emanate from our SURESTE 2030 National Railway Development Plan, which advances in the territorial structuring caused by the almost non-existent railway network, as well as we will continue promoting projects such as the tourist promotion campaign of the Granada Altiplano ”.
Likewise, the provincial deputy of VOX, Cristina Jiménez, has supported the initiative, following the line of work that the party is carrying out to vindicate the transport infrastructures in Granada: «From VOX, initiatives have been approved in the plenary session of the Diputación claiming the rail connection of the Port of Motril, the improvement of the highway access to the belt, the recovery of the maritime line with Melilla, or the reopening of the Granada-Baza-Lorca railway line, essential to revitalize the towns of the Altiplano of Granada , and how unjustly it was deprived of it in 1984 because of the socialist governments in Spain and Andalusia ».
