María Eugenia Rodríguez Palop: "Everything we have learned from Barcelona in Comú is going to be put into practice when we win Europe for its people"

"We are going to fight so that there is nobody without rights and we are going to do it with joy, fighting to guarantee that no one is left behind", said the head of the list of Podemos Podemos to the European Parliament.

María Eugenia Rodríguez Palop, head of the list of Podemos We can the European Parliament, has participated this afternoon in a campaign event in Barcelona with Ernest Urtasun, United candidate We can the European Parliament, Ada Colau, mayor of Barcelona and the English writer, analyst and journalist Owen Jones.

During his speech at the Plaça d'Orfila in Barcelona, María Eugenia Rodríguez Palop has promised that everything learned from Barcelona in Comú in these four years of municipal struggle is what the candidacy of United We Can Change Europe will implement from Brussels.

"In these years, with Ada, Barcelona has regained sovereignty over its water, its transport and its energy for the people, it has fought against speculative activity and has faced the most inhuman tourism. Barcelona also fights against environmental deterioration, has integrated its peripheries and has rescued the democratic memory. It has installed a good government based on transparency and participation, with a consultation to stop the oligopolies, has been a refuge city that has demolished walls … ", Palop recalled.

"We are going to reproduce all this in Europe, because the goal is that everything we have learned these four years of Barcelona in Comú we will put into practice when we win Europe for its people. We are going to fight so that there is no one without rights and we are going to do it with joy, fighting to guarantee that no one is left behind, "said the head of the Podemos Podemos list to the European Parliament.

For its part, the mayor Ada Colau, He recalled that Barcelona wants to continue being a real democracy and not just another territory of cuts and austericide.

"This campaign is municipal and therefore we have to talk about the deep pride of being a popular candidate like Barcelona in common, which has brought together so many diverse people who had never before felt that they could decide their own city model. But this campaign is also European and that is why we have to talk about Barcelona as a reference international city of hope. This May 26 we must be aware that the world in general suffers very great threats and that we run the risk of going back to the darkest past in Europe. That's why now, we have a great responsibility: weave networks of international solidarity to create a new republican, feminist and democratizing union that defends human rights and social justice against hatred and that allows us not to take a step back ", Colau highlighted.

"We want to lead the progressive and leftist government that Barcelona needs, that is why we present ourselves again this May 26, to continue making social and courageous policies and for that the key is the strength of the people, the people of the neighborhoods and of the social movements, the common people who have seen how they could get to an institution as important as the city of Barcelona. We need you to mobilize and that you do it with joy in the face of the tension of those who want to stop us, "the mayor indicated.

Ernest Urtasun wanted to emphasize that Barcelona has been a benchmark for citizen revolt these years. "It happened in 2015, when Barcelona sent a message to the world making Ada Colau mayor in the face of the financial disaster that ruined people's lives, and now Barcelona can once again be a reference. Why Barcelona is today a studied model of policies for the city to be its people and not an international elite that speculates with the house or the taxi, for example ". A city model, added Urtasun, which "protects the rights of its inhabitants so they can continue to inhabit it instead of suffering expulsion processes."

On the other hand, Owen Jones has highlighted how Barcelona has been a benchmark for social justice in these years. "At a time when politicians blame immigrants for all injustices, Barcelona is an example of inspiration, a place where you can breathe an atmosphere that shows us that you not only do not have fear, but that you have hope ".

"In these years, you and Ada Colau, you have shown that you do not have to privatize everything and be at the service of the rich, rich people who cause the crisis and then disappear as if nothing. Here in Barcelona you have shown that injustice is not like the time we can not do anything to prevent it from raining, but that injustice can be faced, you have put human face to social urgencies. Teach us Barcelona, how it is possible to fight against power, continue to be an example for Catalonia, for Spain and for Europe ", has settled the British journalist.
