María Gámez on the anniversary of the Civil Guard: “All my respect and appreciation for the work done. This Corps has faced the needs of the entire country with loyalty, neutrality and a vocation for public service ”

The ceremony to commemorate the 177th anniversary of the founding of the Civil Guard has been chaired by the General Director, María Gámez at the General Directorate in Madrid. The Government Delegate in the Community of Madrid, Mercedes González, as well as a representation of civil guards of all jobs, has also attended.

During the act, the retirees of the Corps were recognized by giving them special cards for the Retirees

The Civil Guard has commemorated the 177th anniversary of its foundation with a symbolic act at the headquarters of the General Directorate of the Corps due to the prevention measures established by the health crisis that arose as a result of the covid19.

María Gámez began her words with a memory for the victims of the pandemic, especially the 13 members of the Corps who died from it, as well as those who died of the Corps on duty in the past year.

The General Director has shelled the qualities that define the Civil Guard: Honor, dedication, perseverance, courage, solidarity, training, efficiency, effort, trust, closeness, respect for human rights. All this results in rigorous, specialized, innovative and professional work with which our men and women have defeated ETA terrorism; they fight drug traffickers in the Campo de Gibraltar; fight corruption at all levels; they save lives in the Mediterranean and the Atlantic; they help victims of violence against women; they contribute to the progress in Spain of the ‘Demographic Challenge’; or participate in high-risk missions abroad.

“It has been a difficult year, nothing has been easy. All my respect and appreciation for the work done. Hand in hand, this Corps has faced the needs of the entire country with loyalty, neutrality and a vocation for public service, without diverting the focus of attention from what is important at any time, apart from interested and fictitious debates. As it should be, because for us only people exist ”, highlighted María Gámez.

The Director General has continued to point out that “the Civil Guard –this great family- is the only police force that has historically maintained the same name, the same traditions, the same missions and even the same hat. And I add something: it has also maintained unchanged its determination to take care of its main asset, its men and women, its human capital ”.

“And in this great family there is no shortage of those who, after a life given to the Corps, have become retired. Today we have made a representative delivery of the first cards dedicated to them, an umbilical cord that we want to keep to tell them that we do not forget them, an object that materializes an intangible: their services and teachings continue to have an echo in this Institution and we want in a different way. another to continue counting on them. Our recognition and immense respect for their years of dedication ”, in the words of María Gámez.
