More than 7,000 cannabis plants intervened in a macro-operation carried out in Atarfe (Granada)
7.25 kilos of marijuana have also been seized and five people have been arrested for crimes against public health and for fraud of electricity
Since 2016 the Civil Guard have carried out different operations that have resulted in the intervention of more than 41,000 plants
The Civil Guard, within the framework of the Green Galaxy operation, has intervened 7,096 cannabis sativa plants and 7.25 kilos of marijuana in a macro-operation against drug cultivation and trafficking in a neighborhood of Atarfe (Granada).
The operation has resulted in the arrest of five people and the investigation of one more for crimes against public health for the cultivation and manufacture of drugs and for minor crimes of fraud of electricity.
Since 2016 the Civil Guard has tried to eradicate the massive cultivation of cannabis sativa in plots of a neighborhood in the municipality of Atarfe. So far, four operations have been carried out in this area in which 41,226 plants have been intervened.
Drug traffickers take advantage of the fact that these plots do not have a known owner and adapt them to the cultivation of cannabis sativa even with drip irrigation, improvising fences to separate some plots from others, hiding them from view with raffia cloth and have armed guards to defend them from theft. In fact, last year some civil guards were shot in the same area when they were mistaken for thieves.
Drug traffickers also take advantage of the fact that access to these plots can only be done through the streets of the neighborhood, so it is very difficult for agents to access them without being detected.
The first operation took place in September 2016, the Rotavator operation, in which the Civil Guard seized 6,684 cannabis sativa plants. Two years later, in June 2018, Operation Rotavátor 2 took place, in which 12,195 plants were intervened. The third macro-operation was the Green Planet, which took place in July 2020 and resulted in the largest number of marijuana plants intervened in Atarfe to date, 15,250 cannabis sativa plants.
The fourth operation took place on August 26, 2021. The Civil Guard deployed, as in previous years, an extensive device around this neighborhood in which 10 illegally occupied plots of land and three sheds were located where they grew 6,156 cannabis sativa plants of different sizes. Subsequently, he made five home searches. In the first record, the researchers found 633 cannabis sativa plants; in the second 7.2 kilos of marijuana ready for sale; in the third 750 plants; in the fourth 941 and in the fifth 300 floors. In addition, the five homes found as many fraudulent connections to the electricity grid.
The operation is still open so further arrests are not ruled out.
The operation has been carried out by the Citizen Security Unit of the Granada Command and the Armilla Company and the posts of Atarfe and Maracena and the Rural Security Group of Zaragoza.
