More than a million self-employed workers will access this extraordinary benefit as of April 30, the purpose of which is to protect the lack of income for self-employed workers in the exceptional situation caused by the COVID-19 pandemic and contribute to the survival of their deal. As of April 21, 1,039,598 benefits had been resolved favorably and 38,605 had been denied, including 3,685 withdrawn, so the acceptance rate exceeds 90%. There are still 76,722 pending resolution.
As of April 22, Social Security had received more than 1,154 million applications, which means that the percentage of self-employed people who have requested the benefit stands at 35.5% of contributors.
In order to facilitate the processing of this benefit to the self-employed who were not yet affiliated to any mutual, last Tuesday the Council of Ministers approved a Royal decree law that allows them to do it to request it.
The extraordinary benefit for cessation of activity for the self-employed can be requested by any self-employed worker who is affected by the closure of his business due to the declaration of the state of alarm or whose billing has fallen by 75% in the month compared to the monthly average of the previous semester. In the case of some groups such as agriculture, the sea -with very seasonal activities- or culture and entertainment, the calculation period is adapted to the peculiarities of these sectors.
The amount of this benefit managed by Social Security is equivalent to 70% of the minimum contribution base in the Special Scheme for Self-Employed Workers or, where appropriate, in the Special Scheme for the Sea, which represents a minimum of 661 euros. a month. In addition, the self-employed and self-employed who receive it will be exempt from paying the monthly contributions. If upon being granted the benefit they have already paid the fees, the General Treasury of Social Security will reimburse them ex officio.
To request it, no minimum contribution period is required, it is only necessary to be registered with Social Security and be up to date with the payment of social contributions. In addition, it is compatible with any other Social Security benefit that the applicant has been receiving, such as orphanhood or widowhood, and was compatible with the performance of the activity that was carried out.
