More than a million masks purchased by the Ministry of Transport, Mobility and Urban Agenda arrive in Spain (Mitma)


This morning a new shipment has arrived at the Adolfo Suárez Madrid-Barajas Airport with more than a million protection masks, purchased centrally by the Ministry of Transport, Mobility and Urban Agenda (Mitma), through the Administrator of Railway Infrastructures ( ADIF). The reception of this new consignment occurs within the framework of the operation opened by Aena in order to facilitate the arrival of equipment and medical supplies to deal with COVID-19.

These protection masks are already being distributed among workers of the Mitma Group, the Post Office and transport companies, as well as to autonomous communities, the latter for delivery to workers of terrestrial public transport of autonomous and local competition.

Thus, for example, more than 3,300,000 masks have already been made available to the transport sector, thanks to the collaboration of the Post Office, a sector that, as has been indicated on multiple occasions, is currently an essential service and that It includes companies and freelancers that carry out public transport of goods by road, passenger transport by bus, taxi and VTC services, and medical transport, as well as private companies that transport goods by rail.

Also included in this quantity are the masks sent to the Autonomous Communities for distribution among the workers of public land transport of autonomous and local competition.

The acquisition of these shipments has been made by the emergency procedure, in accordance with the provisions of article 16 of the Royal Decree-Law 7/2020, of March 12, by which urgent measures are adopted to respond to the economic impact of COVID-19, under the provisions of article 120 of Law 9/2017, of November 8, on Public Sector Contracts.
