The Minister of Economy and Business, Nadia Calviño, has participated in a talk at the Faculty of Economics and Business of the University of La Coruña. Before an audience of more than 400 students, the minister has analyzed the main reasons that led to the international crisis 10 years ago and has pointed out as one of the positive consequences of the crisis “the decisive impulse to the governance of the euro zone, which has allowed today the whole monetary area to be stronger ”.
Nadia Calviño has highlighted the progress made in the Monetary Union in recent years, including the Banking Union and the new supervision and resolution architecture that “is essential to break the perverse link between the financial sector and the sector public". It has also pointed out other reforms implemented since the crisis that have led the euro zone countries to synchronize their budgets and have also led to the implementation of a new macroeconomic imbalance monitoring procedure.
Despite the progress made, Minister Nadia Calviño has outlined some of the challenges that need to be addressed, among which she has pointed out the differences in the patterns of growth and economic performance between countries; the need to close the reform of the Banking Union in relation to Deposit Insurance and the importance of simplifying budgetary rules to improve communication and supervision.
Likewise, it has analyzed the situation of the Spanish economy, of which it has highlighted its robust growth, together with the need to address changes that allow to tackle the imbalances that still persist and respond to the challenges that many economies share and that transcend the scope purely economical
On her first trip to Galicia, the Minister of Economy and Business has held a meeting with the mayor of La Coruña and with the President of the Provincial Council. Finally, the forum «The digital agenda and its impact on Galicia», organized by the newspaper La Voz de Galicia and Abanca, has closed.
