• The changes affect the national side of the 1 and 2 euro coins that are put into circulation from today

Today the distribution of the first coins destined for the circulation of 1 and 2 euros with the image of Felipe VI after his proclamation as King of Spain in June last year has begun. The Ministry of Economy and Competitiveness, through the Ministry of the Treasury and Financial Policy, authorized the change in the national face of these currencies last October and its minting began on January 1. Four million annual coins of each type are expected to be issued in the first years of manufacture.

The 1 and 2 euro coins issued previously maintain their legal course. The changes introduced only affect the national side of the currencies, which will replace the old ones as their demand increases.

At the end of last year, two commemorative coins of the proclamation of Philip VI were also issued and minted: one of 30 euros of collection and one of 2 euros commemorative.
