08-September-2019.- Agents of the National Police have arrested four people who, allegedly, extorted users of an erotic contact website and who would have obtained about 9,500 euros in two months with the practice of this illegal activity. Those arrested – in Granada (2), Marbella and Valencia – published ads on an erotic website with the aim of capturing potential victims from whom they asked for money after threatening them. To do this, they posed as hitmen for an organization dedicated to pimping and accused their victims of having molested the alleged prostitutes without hiring their services. They also sent photographs and videos of hooded men wielding firearms, creating a state of fear and insecurity. The investigation has had the collaboration of the Mossos d'Esquadra.
Fictitious home surveillance
The investigation began in the first days of August of this year after detecting several complaints, filed in different police stations in the country, for extortion threats through instant messaging. Investigators quickly realized that all the victims claimed to be users of an erotic contact website and were in a state of fear and insecurity, after receiving threats through WhatsApp. With the first investigations, the modus operandi of those investigated was discovered, first they published an advertisement on the web of erotic contacts with the aim of contacting potential victims and later to earn money through serious extortion and threats.
In these messages, the extortionists asked the complainants for a sum of money posing as hitmen, accusing them of molesting prostitutes and not hiring their services. While they waited for payment, they made their victims believe that they controlled the surroundings of their homes and, in the event that payment did not occur or they were blocked in the telephone application, they would give the necessary orders to act against him or his family. Likewise, they did not hesitate to intimidate those harassed by sending them photographs of hooded people and firearms or videos with direct threats to the victims.
22 people extorted
With all this information, the agents managed to identify several people in different cities of the national territory and arrested four people in Granada (2), Marbella and Valencia. All the detainees were in charge of placing the ads on the erotic contact pages, collecting the money from the bank accounts and subsequently sending the money outside of Spain.
Thanks to this operation, the agents have learned that those involved in this criminal activity have obtained an economic benefit of approximately 9,500 euros after extorting 22 people. The operation is still open to locate the rest of the members of the group who extorted from abroad Spanish citizens who contacted the erotic advertisements.
