12-August-2020.- The National Police have arrested in the port of Algeciras, and within the framework of the MINERVA'20 operation, a person who intended to introduce 4,596 kilos of hashish into Spain through the double bottom inside a trailer. The drug was detected by the action of a patrol of Canine Guides made up of a Spanish-Portuguese team from the European FRONTEX Agency.

Operation Minerva 2020 is led by the National Police, coordinated by the European FRONTEX Agency and has the participation of police from 15 Member States of the European Union.

130 bales hidden in a double bottom

A patrol of canine guides deployed in the Minerva'20 operation has discovered more than 4 and a half tons of hashish hidden inside a trailer as it entered the port of Algeciras. The seizure was carried out at dawn last Saturday when they inspected a vehicle at the entrance filter to the port from Tangier.

The drug was distributed in 130 bundles hidden in a false bottom inside the trailer, whose internal dimensions did not correspond to the external ones.

More than 200 incidents since its beginning in mid-July

The Minerva operation, which began on July 17, is part of the operational activities coordinated by the FRONTEX agency on the external maritime border of the Western Mediterranean. They aim to reinforce border inspections to combat illegal immigration and contribute to the fight against crime with cross-border dimensions in any of its manifestations.

The participating countries contribute a total of 70 experts with different profiles, specifically, experts in false documents, interviewers, canine guides, 18 experts in the front line of the border crossing, a FRONTEX support officer and experts in detecting stolen vehicles

So far, their interventions exceed 200 incidents related to administrative sanctions, attempts to evade border control, individuals hiding in vehicles, document fraud, investigation of people related to Islamic terrorism and drug trafficking, having practiced a total of 20 so far. arrests.
