Pablo Casado visita la Fundación Querer

The National President of the Popular Party, Pablo Casado, visited the QUERER Foundation this week, an institution dedicated to education, research, dissemination and awareness related to children with special educational needs derived from their neurological diseases and suffering from language disorders, such as consequence of their pathologies.

During his visit to the facilities on the occasion of World Rare Disease Day, in addition to meeting several children with whom the specialists and volunteers of this foundation work, he has had the opportunity to meet with several parents of students and Pablo Lapunzina (coordinator of the Institute of Medical and Molecular Genetics of the University Hospital La Paz and Scientific Director of CIBERER), Tomás Ortiz (Professor of the Department of Psychiatry of the Faculty of Medicine of the Complutense University of Madrid), Pablo Nogueira (Degree Coordinator and Teaching Research Staff Degree video game design and development officer at ESNE – University School of Design, Innovation and Technology) and the director of the “Celia y Pepe” College, Mariana Lombardo.

As they addressed in this meeting, thousands of families across Spain discover how their children begin to manifest language or comprehension problems and do not even become diagnosed or, if they are, will be of a rare disease or others known to which to apply conventional treatments.

All these pathologies, which in 70% affect children, usually have the common denominator of Spectrum Speech Disorder, or minor pathologies related to communication problems that lead to socialization difficulties, which isolate the patient from their environment. In many cases the disease is related to epilepsy or epileptic disorders.

In this context, the Querer Foundation encourages the creation of working groups to diagnose and investigate neurological disorders related to language from a clinical, pharmacological, neurological, and educational point of view.

The educational project of the Querer Foundation is carried out at the “Celia y Pepe” School, a pioneer center in Madrid for children with language disorders, from 3 to 16 years old. These projects, which have institutional support, are also financed with the activities developed by the foundation, such as solidarity careers or outreach campaigns.

During the meeting and the visit in which Pablo Casado has thoroughly known the work of the QUERER Foundation, the president of the PP has transmitted his support to continue advancing in the investigation of rare diseases, of which up to 7,000 have been diagnosed in Spain different – of which 50% are of neurological origin – with treatment for only 200 of them.
