The events organized by the Department will show the policies, commitments and proposals that are being implemented on sustainability and in the fight against climate change
In Fomento we are very aware that transport is a strategic sector for the global development of the country's economy and guarantees the mobility of citizens, but it is also responsible for 25% of the total greenhouse gas emissions. In this sense, in the European Union, and after its decline during 2008-2013 due to the economic crisis, greenhouse gas emissions from transport have increased again since 2014 and are not expected to decrease substantially in the short term, as is occurring in other sectors of the economy that have achieved their decoupling, that is, an increase in economic activity without an equivalent increase in energy consumption or emissions into the atmosphere. This situation implies the need to face the challenge of decarbonization, as an element that will contribute decisively to the decarbonization of the economy.
Along these lines, the Ministry of Development has set out as one of its main challenges to work on a Strategy for Safe, Sustainable and Connected Mobility that will be aligned with the major objectives established from the international level (United Nations Sustainable Development Goals and the Paris Agreement of 2015, as well as with the Objectives set in Europe), and which will have as its central axes security, sustainability, the fight against climate change, intermodality, innovation and digitalization.
