The tennis player Rafa Nadal has received the Silver Cross on the merit of the Civil Guard for his recent collaboration with the Corps to promote the National Interuniversity League of Challenges in Cyberspace.

The operative deputy director, Lieutenant General Laurentino Ceña Coro, has imposed this award on the tennis player at a recent event at the headquarters of the Balearic Islands Civil Guard Zone.
In his speech of thanks, Nadal said that it is "a true honor" to receive this recognition and has taken the opportunity to thank "the great work that the Civil Guard does every day." In this sense, the tennis player has addressed all civil guards stating that "when we see you, citizens feel safer and better accompanied."
For his part, the operative deputy director has highlighted the "selfless support" of the tennis player in his work to disseminate this project. Lieutenant General Ceña has emphasized that the promotional message that Nadal recorded has reached more than 200,000 people and has made it possible for more than 1,000 young people to enroll in the cyber league. The Silver Cross recognizes his "brilliant work" as a cyber league ambassador who has performed "exceptionally", concluded Ceña.

A pioneer league

Coinciding with the 175th anniversary, the Civil Guard has held the first National Interuniversity League of Challenges in Cyberspace. This is a pioneering initiative to capture youth talent that was presented in June by Interior Minister Fernando Grande Marlaska. The promotional video of the Cyberleague was starred by Rafa Nadal, and in it "challenged" the students to demonstrate everything they knew about cybersecurity.
The competition took place between the months of September and November. The winners of this first cyber league were the HACKIT team of the University of Granada in the team modality, and the student of the Autonomous University of Madrid, José Ignacio García Gómez, in the individual modality.
