The first time the faces were seen was in the 2012/13 season on the opening day of the Group Phase. Whites won 3-2 in the Santiago Bernabeu.

In that same edition, the Real Madrid tied with a goal from Benzema in the clash held at Etihad Stadium (1-1). The third precedent took place in the 2015/16 academic year, when those of Zidane they visited Manchester in the first leg of the semifinals of the Champions and finished 0-0. In the lap, which was played in the Santiago Bernabeu, the white set was imposed by the minimum and qualified for the Milan final, in which it achieved its eleventh European Cup.
