The Minister of Industry, Trade and Tourism, Reyes Maroto, spoke today at the meeting of the Regional Commissions of the World Tourism Organization (UNWTO) for Asia and the Pacific, where she has opted to promote the role and international leadership of UNWTO in the post-covid scenario and has reaffirmed Spain's commitment to this organization.
“Tourism has been the sector most affected by the COVID-19 pandemic worldwide and both Spain and the UNWTO are working together to promote its recovery. The Government wishes to further project the work of the main international body in the field of tourism with the aim of reinforcing the multilateral agenda to promote sustainable, digital and inclusive tourism in the post-covid era, coordinate actions that facilitate international mobility and that this economic activity , a generator of development and employment, continue to occupy a priority place on the international agenda ”, Reyes Maroto pointed out in his speech.
The UNWTO regional commissions for Asia and the Pacific meet at least once a year and represent the main meeting between the organization and the members of this geographical area. On the agenda of the meeting this Tuesday, is the presentation of the region's priorities in terms of tourism, the analysis of the recovery of the sector in the face of the Covid pandemic and the preparation of the next UNWTO General Assembly, scheduled between the end of November and the beginning of December in Marrakech (Morocco).
