The deputy of VOX in the General Meeting of the Principality, Sara Álvarez Rouco, has asked this morning the regional government “a greater endowment of resources to solve the lack of attention suffered by elderly people at risk of exclusion that require urgent assistance and that due to the delays in the management of the places of the ERA (Residential Establishments for the Elderly) they die alone, abandoned and without attention in their homes ”.
In addition, during her intervention, the deputy has complained to the Ministry of Social Rights and Welfare, headed by Melania Álvarez, who urges the corresponding levels to reach solutions “in the face of a problem that in Asturias is increased by the aging of the population and that will grow exponentially. ” According to the data, as of December 31, 2019, the deputy continued, “26,877 Asturians have recognized the right to dependence and only 21,083 are receiving some benefit, indicating that there are 5,794 people waiting to obtain a place in a residence or a day center ”.
“We cannot allow Asturians to perceive their future as an unresolved mystery, even more so when they have fulfilled all the obligations that the Administration has required throughout their lives,” says Álvarez Rouco. In this regard, stresses the deputy, "we believe that the Care Unit is strategic in policies, both for its benefits as for its impact on employment." Therefore, the VOX Parliamentary Group “requires the implementation of concrete measures to fulfill the commitment and good wishes announced by the Minister of Social Rights and Welfare,” concludes the deputy.
