As usual, January reflects the impact of the end of the Christmas campaign and falls by 244,044 occupied, with a more intense setback in Commerce and Hospitality. This year, in addition, the data reflects the impact of storms on seasonal agricultural campaigns, which is reflected in the monthly balance of the Special Agricultural System, which records a decrease of 15,317 workers.
The decline in membership this year is more pronounced than in January 2019, although it should be noted that the total number of employed persons, 19,164,494, represents a maximum in the historical series of the first month of the year. It should also be noted the increase in 5,324 people of the affiliation without the seasonal component, in line with the trend registered throughout 2019.
The first month of the year registered 8,938,219 women workers, the highest figure in the months of January and 2.53% more than in 2019. As for men, the number of workers reaches 10,226,275 employed (53 , 36%).
Regarding 2019
In relation to last year, the System added 345,194 workers, 1.83%. The General Regime continues to be the one that stands out for its behavior, since it incorporates 329,066 employed persons (2.12%). If we consider the data corresponding to the General Regime itself (without Agrarian or Household), the figure increases to 392,432 affiliates, which represents an interannual growth of 2.74%.
As for the Special Scheme for Autonomous Workers, the rate increased by 0.52%, which translates into a growth of 16,747 people. The Sea and Coal regimes registered declines of 229 (-0.37%) and 391 (-23.71%) people, respectively.
In annual terms, the affiliation grew in almost all the Autonomous Communities. The increases in Madrid (91,031), Catalonia (57,491), Andalusia (47,686) and Comunidad Valenciana (44,113) stand out in absolute figures. On the contrary, there is a slight decrease in Extremadura (-28) and in the Autonomous City of Melilla (-314).
Regarding December
The General Regime registered a decrease of 224,909 people in January (-1.40%), which puts the total in 15,851,141 employed.
In January, membership declined in absolute terms mainly in the sectors of Commerce, Repair of Motor Vehicles and Motorcycles (-43,057), Hospitality (-42,987), Administrative Activities and Auxiliary Services, (-39,752) and Health Activities and Social Services , (10,075).
As for the Special Agrarian System, employed by the General Regime, it falls by 15,317 average members, now standing at 762,548 people. For its part, the Special System of Household Employees decreased by 2,610 and totals 394,017 employed.
The Autonomous Regime has 3,251,119 people, after decreasing by 17,969 in the last month. With respect to the Special Regime of the Sea, it decreased by 1,139 employed to 60,976 affiliates. Finally, Coal is made up of 1,257 average members after descending in 26 people.
By Autonomous Community, the number of affiliates in January fell to a greater extent in Andalusia (-40,148), Catalonia (-39,727), Madrid (-34,083) and Comunidad Valenciana (-33,354).
