Social Security affiliates linked to tourist activities grew 3.5% year-on-year in July, reaching a total of 2,618,636 affiliates, according to data released today by Turespaña, under the Ministry of Industry, Commerce and Tourism. This figure is the highest in the historical series in a month of July.
Employment in tourism activities has grown in the last year 89,668 workers in high labor, representing 13.6% of the total affiliates in the national economy.
The Secretary of State for Tourism, Isabel Oliver, values these affiliation figures very positively because they show the consolidation of tourism as a source of employment and the effort of the Government because it is increasingly of better quality, improving the working conditions of sector workers. "
Data by activity branches
In July, the increase in affiliation was recorded in all tourist branches: the hotel industry grew by 54,177 members (40,663 more members in food and beverage services and 13,514 more in accommodation services), in other tourist activities it increased by 32,979 affiliates, and in the travel agencies there was an increase of 2,512 workers. It highlights the positive behavior of this branch since December 2014, having been an activity that reduced its employment continuously from 2008 to 2014.
Last month the number of employees in the tourism sector, which represents 81% of the total, grew 4.1% over the same month last year, while self-employment (19% of the total) increased 1.3 %.
Data by Autonomous Communities
In July, employment in the hotel and travel agencies / tour operators as a whole grew in all the autonomous communities. In absolute figures, the greatest increases were in Andalusia, Catalonia, Community of Madrid, Valencian Community, Galicia and the Balearic Islands. These six communities together account for 78% of the absolute interannual increase.
In relative terms, the increases in Andalusia (5%) and Murcia (4.6%) stand out.
