More than one million children (1,078,249) benefit from the improvement of the non-contributory family benefits of the Social Security that will be paid on July 16.
The increase in the amounts of these benefits and the thresholds to access them were included in the Royal Decree-Law 8/2019, of 8 March, on urgent measures of social protection and fight against precariousness in the working day.
The family benefit for dependent children was frozen since 2000, when its amount was set at 291 euros. The new amount of 341 euros per year implies an increase of 17.18%. In addition, this Royal Decree-law included a new assumption, that of severe poverty, whereby families with fewer resources receive a benefit of 588 euros per year for each child or minor dependent on them. In these cases, the increase is 102.06%.
To access the economic benefit for a dependent child of 341 euros, the family income limit is 12,313 euros / year, and it reaches 18,532 in the case of large families. The income limit is increased by 3,002 euros for each dependent child from the fourth, including this one. Currently, 384,974 families benefit from this allocation, so that 498,040 children are protected.
In the case of families with fewer resources, those who benefit from the provision of 588 euros per year, the income limit ranges between 4,679.99 euros or less for family units composed of an adult and a child under 14 years of age. , and 6,839.99 euros for families of one adult and three children. In this situation there are 381,728 family units, in total, 580,209 children and children, according to the data available to the Social Security and once the income is updated with the information provided by the Tax Agency.
Non-contributory nature
Family benefits are intended to cover the situation of financial need or excess of expenditure that, for certain individuals, the existence of family responsibilities and the birth or adoption of children in certain cases.
There are three performances of this type. On the one hand there is the economic allowance for each child under eighteen years of age or older and who is affected by a disability in a degree equal to or greater than 65 percent, at the expense of the beneficiary, regardless of the legal nature of the filiation, as well as for minors under their care in permanent foster care or guardianship for adoption purposes.
As long as it does not exceed the interprofessional minimum salary, the dependent child or minor can perform lucrative work on his own or on behalf of others.
In addition to this, the Social Security covers an economic benefit of single lump-sum payment for birth or adoption of a child, in cases of large families, single-parent families and in the case of mothers with disabilities; and an economic benefit of single payment for childbirth or multiple adoption.
