• Within the framework of the “Digital Day” celebration, Member States ratify their commitment to work together with institutions, companies and civil society to achieve greater equality and participation of women in the fields of economy and digital technology.

Spain has signed the declaration promoted by the European Commission to promote gender equality and increase the presence of women in the economy and digital society.

On the occasion of the celebration of the “Digital Day” the Member States have ratified their commitment to implement policies and work together with institutions, companies and civil society to boost the presence of women in the digital, science and technology fields.

15% of ICT jobs occupied by women

Nowadays Only 15% of the jobs related to Information and Communication Technologies (ICT) are held by women, gap that affects all levels of the digital economy. The reasons are diverse, being among the main gender prejudices and the roles traditionally assigned to both genders.

To advance and achieve greater participation of women in these areas of activity, Member States commit to promulgate a national intersectoral strategy aimed at increasing gender equality in the digital world, with special emphasis on education and qualification, guaranteeing a favorable working environment and equal opportunities.

Likewise, it will work in collaboration with the media to convey a positive image of women in the digital environment, in order to combat stereotypes. I know will establish the "Day of Girls and Women in ICT" throughout Europe, with the objective of increasing the visibility and knowledge of professions related to Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (STEM) and promoting their study among girls and women.

Among the commitments signed are also the promotion and promotion of a non-discriminatory work culture, the advance in the balanced composition of men and women in national and European organizations, boards and committees that deal with digital issues whenever possible and continuous monitoring of the evolution of the real participation of women in the digital economy.

In line with this performance, the Ministry of Economy and Business recently published the White Paper for women in the technological field, aimed at giving visibility and analyzing the gap between men and women in that sector to guide public authorities when proposing effective measures to address inequalities
