Spain deeply regrets the death of the President of the Tunisian Republic, Beji Caid Essebsi, and transfers his most sincere and heartfelt condolences to his family, the authorities and the people of Tunisia.
President Essebsi was a key figure in the politics and democratic transition of Tunisia, and of recognized prestige at the regional and international level.
Spain recognizes the efforts and dedication of President Essebsi in strengthening relations between the two countries. During their tenure, they experienced a remarkable strengthening for the benefit of the two peoples, as evidenced by the celebration in Tunisia of the VIII High Level Meeting.
Spain has always been with the Tunisian people, has accompanied its democratic transition and will continue to lend its full support to the progress and prosperity efforts of a country as close as Tunisia, to which so many ties unite us.
