Representatives from the Ministry of Industry and a group of Spanish companies attended the first coordination meeting in Berlin to define a new Important Project of European Common Interest (IPCEI), for its acronym in English, of Batteries led by Germany.

This IPCEI is part of the initiative European Alliance of Batteries (EBA), promoted by the European Commission and of which Spain has been active since its inception. The IPCEI projects allow the participants to interact under a partnership dynamic and its fundamental objective is to anchor in Europe the industries linked to the value chains of the future.

The process of selection of companies began at the beginning of this month with the launch of a public notice of interest expression (Call of interest), to which companies responded with innovative projects in the value chain linked to electric batteries, from the production of raw materials up to the industrial recycling processes.

The representatives explained their R + D + i projects in Berlin to the rest of European companies – from twelve countries -, thus beginning the work of defining a European technological project that will allow European industry to dominate all aspects of the chain of value of the batteries.

The companies will remain in contact in the coming weeks and must finally decide on their participation in the consortium and the scope of their projects. The work is expected to continue until next September.
