Culture and sport also join this Summit and for this, cultural and sports institutions linked to the Government of Spain have launched a series of activities that, from their scope, intend to draw attention to the state of climatic emergency to through campaigns, debates, conferences, concerts and plays, among other activities.
Known faces of culture and sport in Spain, united by the motto It is time to act, they have collaborated selflessly in the creation of a video sponsored by the Ministry of Culture and Sports that will be disseminated through social networks and the media that want to join this initiative in order to raise awareness in society and public administrations of the climate emergency situation.
In the video appear the actor and producer Antonio Banderas, the filmmaker Pedro Almodóvar, the graphic artist Suso33, the three-time world champion of badminton Carolina Marín, the eight-time world motorcycling champion Marc Márquez, the actresses Rossy de Palma and Belén Cuesta, Writer Ida Vitale Cervantes Prize 2018, pianist James Rhodes, double Olympic canoeing champion Saúl Craviotto and Betis footballer Joaquín Sánchez, among other leading figures in the world of culture and sports.
Actions of museums, archives and the National Library
To this campaign is added another of the national museums, state archives and the National Library of Spain that will be disseminated through social networks. With the image of some of his works, documents or photographs related to the natural environment, it is intended to "engage" very diverse audiences, inside and outside Spain, to talk about the climatic emergency through art.
The National Prado Museum, the Reina Sofía Museum, the Thyssen-Bornemisza National Museum, the National Archaeological Museum, the Cerralbo Museum, the National Anthropology Museum, the National Sculpture Museum of Valladolid, the Altamira Museum, participate in this campaign El Greco Museum, National Museum of Roman Art and the Lázaro Galdiano Museum.
The Museo Nacional del Prado also participates in an original initiative with the WWF Spain organization, which will be launched tomorrow, Monday, December 2, putting art and its values at the service of society's awareness of climate change. For its part, the National Library of Spain will disseminate contents of its collections related to sustainability and environmental protection. Posters related to COP25 have also been placed on the facades of the headquarters of the Ministry of Culture and Sports, as well as those of the National Prado Museum, the Reina Sofía Museum and the Thyssen-Bornemisza National Museum.
Radio 3 sounds for the planet
Radio Televisión Española, through its young Radio 3 channel, joins the fight for the cause of the Climate Summit with a special program that will be broadcast from a stage set up in the IFEMA Green Pavilion, the one dedicated to civil society In this global encounter. From that scenario, Radio 3 will broadcast a special program every day informing about the developments that occur around climate change and offering live performances by the main national artists that join this project.
Every day, from six to seven in the afternoon, there will be performances by groups and artists such as Vetusta Morla, Carolina Durante, Manel, Izal, Amaral, Rocío Márquez, Manolo Garcia, Soleá Morente, Macaco or Jorge Pardo, among others, to show the cultural diversity that the station supports, from pop to flamenco, jazz or singer-songwriters, among other styles. The program will be broadcast live and also in streaming video on the Radio 3 Extra platform every day of the summit. Theater, workshops and meetings
In the Sala Mirlo Blanco of the Valle-Inclán Theater, in Madrid, you can see the montage Pulmones, the work of the British playwright Duncan Macmillan, which will be on the bill until December 8. Lungs represents the drama of a couple that is destabilized by considering the environmental impact of bringing a child into the world.
The Ministry of Culture and Sports, through the Institute of Cultural Heritage of Spain (IPCE) and ICOMOS Spain, together with the Ministry of Ecological Transition, have organized the Climate Change and Heritage meeting, in which international specialists in climate factors and its relationship with the culture and heritage of ICOMOS. Technicians from both ministries and institutes, as well as the Spanish Association of Historic Heritage Restoration Companies (ARESPA) will raise needs and objectives around this concern that requires direct actions to protect the heritage effectively.
The meeting, coordinated by the Deputy Director General of IPCE and Fernando Vegas, member of the ICOMOS Climate Change and Heritage Working Group, aims to find solutions, quantify problems and share experiences on the effects of materials, monuments and territories regarding climate change . It is free -up to complete the capacity and prior registration-, and will be held at the headquarters of the IPCE (C / Pintor el Greco, 4. Madrid), on November 11 from 9 am to 2:30 pm. Museums and the Paris Agreement
Museums and other cultural institutions have been explicitly recognized as key spaces to promote public education and action at the last Conference of the Parties (COP) held in 2018 in Katowice (Poland). Museums are a channel of expression that can help citizens understand the challenges facing humanity and communicate the role that people can assume to transform the world. Therefore, and on the occasion of the celebration in Madrid of the COP25, it is intended to share ideas and experiences on how museums can contribute to education and action against climate change, both locally and globally.
Therefore, the Ministry of Culture and Sports, through the National Museum of Decorative Arts, has organized the workshop Museums and the Paris Agreement. The contribution of museums to action against climate change and sustainability in a broad sense, led by Briton Henry McGhie, member of the ICOM Working Group on Sustainability, and Fiona Cameron, of the Institute for Culture and Society of Western Sydney University, with the coordination of Paloma Muñoz-Campos, of the National Museum of Decorative Arts. This workshop will take place on Wednesday, December 11, from 4:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. at the Museum of Decorative Arts (Montalbán, 12. Madrid).
The Thyssen-Bornemisza National Museum also turns to COP25 and, coinciding with the beginning of the summit, presents, in collaboration with the non-profit foundation TBA21, the work Western Flag (Spindletop, Texas) 2017, by the Irish artist John Gerrard. It is a large piece with which Gerrard has wanted to draw attention to the role of human beings in global warming and will be exhibited in the courtyard of the museum from December 2 to 13.
The museum will also host, on Tuesday, December 3, the presentation of the Ocean for Climate report, an initiative of the Because the Ocean organization. The event will be attended by the acting Minister of Culture and Sports, José Guirao, the promoters of the Francesca Thyssen-Bornemisza report (TBA21 Foundation), Prince Albert II of Monaco (Prince Albert II Foundation of Monaco), the Minister of Environment of Chile and president of COP25, Carolina Schmidt, and the Minister for Ecological Transition in office, Teresa Ribera, as well as other participants in the summit.
The museum will also hold a round table in the auditorium in which John Gerrard, the artist Alexandra Daisy Ginsbergy and the researcher José Luis de Vicente, presented by Francesca Thyssen-Bornemisza (Tuesday 10, at 7:30 p.m.) and will organize from 10 to 12 of December Guided visits following a tour about art and climate emergency (activity included in the price of the entrance to the museum).
Action plan of sport with the environment
The Spanish Sports Association has launched an action plan to undertake actions that favor the protection of the environment through sport. The project is called Green Sport Flag and has the participation of the Ministries of Culture and Sports and Ecological Transition. It includes actions such as the implementation of a badge for sporting events committed to nature, the study of the environmental footprint in sport, a symposium on water sports or the creation of an Observatory of Sport and Environment.
In this context, the day will be held Sport takes place on December 5, from 9:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m., at the National Archaeological Museum (C / Serrano, 13. Madrid). Its objective is the exchange of knowledge between professionals and agents and companies from the world of sports, public institutions and civil society to direct the sport towards a sustainable and environmentally friendly development.
