The Civil Guard delivers food to a neighbor of a small town in Cabrales (Asturias)

The Civil Guard provides support to residents of rural areas affected by the lack of communication after the decree of the state of alarm

Since the declaration of the alarm state, the Civil Guard has intensified its approach to the inhabitants of rural areas, where there is a large population that depends for their mobility on basic services that have currently been reduced.

The common denominator in these rural towns – which in Asturias is made up of numerous houses scattered throughout the landscape – is the proximity between its inhabitants.

This is the case of Juan, a neighbor of Berodia, a small town nestled in the Picos de Europa, in the Cabrales municipal council. At 80 years old, and without a driving license, he walked five kilometers down to stock up on the products necessary for his daily life.

This distance is the one that separates Berodia -where he lives- from Carreña de Cabrales, head of municipality and place where supermarkets, bars, bank, etc. are located. After the decree of the state of alarm, this person lacks the possibility of approaching the town for supplies.

For this reason, the mayor, aware of their needs, makes the purchase of the same, and it is the Civil Guard who takes it, specifically a guard from the Carreña Post, with whom he has special confidence.

The civil guard Rubén has brought him two bags of food, in addition to making sure he was fine and asking him if he needed anything else, such as hot food.

No, Juan answered, but can I go to the bank on Monday? It is because I need to pay the electricity, if they don't cut it for me. Answering Rubén: "Don't worry, I'm already talking to the bank now and I'll tell you on Monday"

This is how the Civil Guard works in rural areas, giving support to what its inhabitants need, and solving their doubts, especially in the most vulnerable population such as elderly people like Juan.
