The Civil Guard dismantles an organization dedicated to drug trafficking and money laundering, which hid the money in a kitchen oven

The Civil Guard, within the framework of the HEBRÓN operation carried out in Tarragona, has dismantled a criminal organization dedicated to drug trafficking and money laundering from drug trafficking, detaining 15 members of the same who are being investigated for crimes of drug trafficking, money laundering, illegal possession of weapons, robbery with force, reception, fraud of electricity and belonging to a criminal organization.

10 searches have been carried out in homes and industrial buildings, in which 203,000 euros in cash have been seized, the majority hidden in an insulating compartment of a kitchen oven, 37,000 Danish crowns, 1 automatic long gun, 1 revolver caliber 38, 1 22 caliber carbine, 1 pistol and 1 detonator revolver modified to make live fire, 4 pleasure boats, 2 boat engines, 2 high-end vehicles, 95 grams of hashish, 1,119 marijuana plants and 2,520 grams of processed cannabis.

The investigation began at the end of 2019, when the Civil Guard learned of the existence of a criminal organization dedicated to drug trafficking whose members have settled in the towns of Tarragona and Torredembarra. The agents found that the two leaders of the organization maintained a high standard of living without exercising any type of legal work activity.

After more than half a year of investigation, it was possible to discover the structure of the criminal organization, determining and identifying each of its members, from the management to the lowest level, such as the growers and managers of marijuana plantations. Throughout the investigation, six marijuana plantations were detected, some of them already dismantled at the time of police exploitation.

Precisely, in the month of January 2020 in one of the indoor plantations managed by the organization, in a warehouse of the Riu Clar industrial estate in Tarragona, due to the inadequacy of the electrical installation for the fraudulent energy supply of the plantation, produced a fire that forced the action of firefighters. During the extinction, a plantation made up of more than 5,000 marijuana plants was discovered, and the Mossos d'Esquadra, who took over this action, were alerted.

During the investigation, it was also possible to prove the participation in the robbery with force in a nautical company in Sant Joan Despí (Barcelona), of a boat, two engines and various tools, by four members of the criminal organization investigated.

For this reason, once the entry and registration order had been obtained from the judicial authority, a police operation was established made up of more than 200 civil guards made up of elite agents from the Special Intervention Unit of the Civil Guard (UEI), of the Group of Reserve and Security (GRS) and of the Organic Unit of Judicial Police (UOPJ) of the Command of the Civil Guard of Tarragona. To dismantle the criminal organization investigated, 5 simultaneous searches were carried out in different homes and 5 successive in industrial buildings in the towns of Tarragona, Torredembarra and La Pobla de Montornés.

In these searches, 203,000 euros in cash were intervened, most hidden in an insulating compartment of the kitchen oven, 37,000 Danish crowns, 1 long automatic weapon, 1 revolver caliber 38, 1 carbine caliber 22, 1 pistol and 1 detonator revolver modified to make real fire, 4 pleasure boats, 2 boat engines, 2 high-end vehicles, 95 grams of hashish, 1,119 marijuana plants and 2,520 grams of processed cannabis, a money counting machine and material for the cultivation and distribution of cannabis.

During the intervention and in the following days, 15 people were arrested, 14 of them men and 1 woman, between the ages of 20 and 57, as alleged perpetrators of integration into a criminal organization, drug trafficking, money laundering , fraud of electricity, robbery with force, extortion, fraud, arbitrary realization of one's own right and illegal possession of weapons.

The detainees were placed at the disposal of the court acting as guard of El Vendrell, who decreed the entry into prison without bail for the two leaders of the criminal organization under investigation.
