The Director General, María Gámez, held a meeting this morning with those responsible for the Technical Unit of the Judicial Police of the Civil Guard.
This Unit is in charge, among other functions, of the analysis of the situation and evolution of criminality and of the coordination of the investigations and operations that take place in the Civil Guard at national and international level, mainly in the field of judicial police . In this sense, they coordinate some 4,000 operations a year related to all types of crime.
One of the most important aspects that have been addressed during this meeting has been the situation of gender violence during the state of alarm, an issue in which the Civil Guard has turned especially to avoid that the confinement could suppose an increase in cases. To this end, actions aimed at protecting the approximately 23,000 victims that the Corps is currently active in its demarcation have intensified. Specifically, more than 91,000 actions have been carried out between calls or interviews with victims, counter-tricks, etc.
María Gámez has insisted on conveying the message that victims have to know that they have all the usual channels to contact us, both by phone, in person, and through the alertcops application, especially through the SOS button that is has launched a few weeks ago; But she has also stressed that it is very important that family members, neighbors, in short, anyone who has knowledge that a woman may be a victim of gender violence, communicate this to us.
Another issue that has been discussed has been the proliferation of cyber frames that are being produced due to the covid-19, especially those that have to do with medical devices, phishing, etc. In fact, to assist people who could be victims of this type of fraud, the Civil Guard launched the email ciberestafas@guardiacivil.org at the beginning of the Alarm State, in which hundreds of alerts have been received from citizens and have allowed various police operations.
The Director General thanked the fundamental work carried out by the Technical Unit of the Judicial Police, highly specialized in detecting and analyzing the most burning criminal typologies at present, as well as the essential work they carry out in relation to the most sensitive and vulnerable groups. , for which they have established a large number of communication channels and work with organizations, social institutions and the third sector in general.
