The Civil Guard has identified, in two different actions carried out in Tenerife, two drivers who were driving recklessly while being recorded, to later spread it on social networks.

Reckless driving offense

In a first action, a driver who passed several vehicles on the shoulder of a road was investigated for a reckless driving offense.

The Canary Islands Traffic Sector Research and Analysis Group (GIAT), after detecting the dissemination of a video on social networks, in which several vehicles were overtaking at high speed using the hard shoulder, proceeded to locate the vehicle and the identification of its driver. He has been charged with an alleged crime of driving against road safety for reckless driving by putting the physical integrity of the rest of the road users at risk.

In accordance with the provisions of the current Penal Code, the crime of reckless driving is punishable by a prison sentence of six months to two years and the deprivation of the right to drive motor vehicles and mopeds for a time greater than one and up to six years.

The investigated facts have been made available to the Investigating Court acting as Guard of the judicial district of San Cristóbal de La Laguna.

Reckless Driving Violation

The Research and Analysis Group of the Canary Islands Traffic Sector (GIAT), after detecting and viewing the video on social networks, began the identification of the driver by proceeding to draw up the corresponding report for reckless driving, bringing it to the attention of the Headquarters. In accordance with the provisions of the current Road Safety Law, the reckless driving offense is sanctioned with 500 euros and the withdrawal of 6 points from your driving license.
