The Civil Guard initiates the security device of the Cycling Tour of Spain 2021

The Civil Guard, initiates the security device of the 76th edition of the Cycling Tour of Spain, which will be held between today August 14 and September 5.

The Mobility and Security Unit (UMSV) of the Civil Guard, is made up of a total of 130 civil guards. 85 of the Traffic Group from almost all of Spain, who have had to overcome an arduous previous selection process and who will give dynamic protection to cyclists and mobility and road safety, in general, to the entire event; 39 components of the Reserve and Security Group, from the Pontevedra and Tenerife groups, in charge of citizen security and public order inside the stages, especially in mountain passes and in crowded areas, and 6 guards civilians from the Madrid Air Service, who from the air, with the support of a helicopter, will cover the entire device.

Regarding material resources, the Traffic Group contributes 63 motorcycles, 1 passenger car, 4 minivans, 3 vans and 1 truck to the device; the Reserve and Security Group 9 off-road vehicles and 3 vans and the Air Service 1 helicopter, 1 minivan and 1 tanker.

While the official route of La Vuelta will have 3,336.1 kilometers, the UMSV will cover a total of approximately 10,000 kilometers, between stages and journeys.

The province of Burgos will host the start of La Vuelta, with an individual time trial, in the interior of the city of Burgos, this Saturday the 14th. On Sunday the 15th there will be a flat stage between Caleruega and Burgos-Gamonal and on Monday the 15th a stage also flat, but with a high end, between Santo Domingo de Silos and Picón Blanco de Espinosa de los Monteros.

The Burgos Civil Guard Command will support these 3 stages with 10 components and 5 citizen security vehicles, 32 civil guards with 18 vehicles from the Traffic Group, 8 components with 4 vehicles from the Command Citizen Security Unit (USECIC) , 2 components with 1 van from the Explosives Deactivation Group (GEDEX), as well as personnel from the Information Group.
