The government delegations and subdelegations will distribute 14.5 million masks in transport nodes, municipalities and social entities

Starting Monday morning, the Government of Spain will deploy a comprehensive operation in all the autonomous communities to reinforce and comply with the measure announced on Saturday by the Prime Minister, which establishes the mandatory use of masks in public transport. The National Civil Protection System, under the coordination of the General Directorate of Civil Protection and Emergencies of the Ministry of the Interior, will be in charge of a device that provides for the distribution, throughout the national territory, of up to 6 million masks on Monday and on Tuesday.

The distribution, coordinated in each autonomous community by the Government delegation and the Ministry with responsibilities in the field of Civil Protection, aims to guarantee the mandatory use of a mask in public collective transport.

3,500 distribution points throughout Spain

More than 3,500 distribution points have been established, in the main transport nodes, in which Civil Protection volunteers, Spanish Red Cross volunteers, DYA volunteers, and municipal police participate. Members of the State Security Forces and Bodies and of the regional police also collaborate. In total, more than 15,000 troops will participate.

The National Civil Protection System works during the state of alarm under the functional dependency of the Ministry of the Interior.

Regarding the 7 million masks that the municipalities will receive, the distribution will be made in collaboration with the delegations and subdelegations and the FEMP, the municipalities, provincial councils, councils and island councils.

On the other hand, the Government of Spain will deliver, for its distribution, 1.5 million to three social entities: Cáritas, the Spanish Committee of Representatives of People with Disabilities (CERMI) and the Red Cross.
