The Government regrets the decision, officially communicated this morning, and welcomes the announcement of the MWC organization to maintain its commitment and continue celebrating this important event in Barcelona in the following editions. It is unbeatable news for the City, for Catalonia and for Spain.
With the information available today and according to experts, the Government understands that there are no public health reasons for not holding such events in our country. Spain has a National Health System of universal care, recognized internationally, which offers full health guarantees in situations such as the current one.
The Government has always followed the recommendations of the World Health Organization, which today has not established restrictions on the movement of people and goods. This has been transmitted to the organizers of this event.
In Spain, only two positive cases of coronavirus have been confirmed in patients who remain asymptomatic and who were infected outside our borders. Today about twenty Spanish citizens from Wuhan have been discharged from the Gómez Ulla hospital in Madrid, where they have remained in quarantine. There is no other incident and the alert level in Spain is considered low.
Health officials will continue to work to offer all necessary public health guarantees. The Government thanks the organization and all the authorities involved in the celebration of the MWC for their task and commitment to ensure that the appointment of Barcelona is and continues to be the most important in the sector at international level and reiterates its own commitment to ensure that this is the case during the next years.
