Specifically, in Extremadura 60 percent of the distribution will take place in urban areas and 40 in rural areas.
This was agreed this morning during the celebration of the Community's Civil Protection Emergency Coordination Center, assembled for this purpose to approve the criteria of a distribution, to be carried out by the Security Forces and Bodies: Civil Guard through all its companies, the National Police from its police stations and volunteers from Civil Protection and the Red Cross.
The distribution and use of masks is part of the strict limitation of movements in force since the start of the state of alarm and is in line with the priorities and recommendations set by the Ministry of Health, which defends the importance of self-protection for all those workers who they cannot telework or move in a private vehicle, bicycle or on foot and they have to use public transport with a large influx of people, among other sectors of the population.
In Extremadura, due to its particularities, dispersion of the population and prevalence of the agrarian sector, among others, the masks will be distributed at train and bus stations; at urban bus stops; at entrances and exits of industrial estates; places where the activity of the construction sector returns, as well as in access to cities and county seats. In the latter, for example, criteria such as the prevalence of small businesses in rural municipalities will be taken into account, now that movements are controlled and only allowed for specific issues. Also the transfer and possible concentrations of workers who carry out agricultural activities.
The 10 million masks, acquired and managed by the Government of Spain, arrived in Spain by air on Friday night for distribution throughout the country. Yesterday, Saturday and Sunday, the routes for distribution have been organized and the Government Delegation in Extremadura is coordinating with the Government subdelegations the items corresponding to the territory.
The Minister of the Interior, Fernando Grande-Marlaska, and the Minister of Territorial Policy and Public Function, Carolina Darias, held a video meeting this Saturday afternoon with all the Government delegates to detail and organize both the distribution by communities and the distribution operation by the main public transport nodes. The deputy secretary of the Ministry of the Interior, Isabel Goicoechea, and the general director of Civil Protection and Emergencies, Leonardo Marcos, also participated in the meeting.
Starting this Monday, and in parallel, the presence of agents of the Security Forces and Bodies will be reinforced in the suburban and metro stations and in the transport nodes, including the bus, to carry out the pertinent checks to guarantee that the movements are only those allowed by the Royal Decree on the state of alarm.
