The Government simplifies the processing and recognition of unemployment benefit for artists

These adjustments respond to the requests of the artistic workers and the spokesmen of the Parliamentary Groups in the debate of validation of the Royal Decree-law of measures of support for culture in the Congress of Deputies and it has been configured with the collaboration of the Ministry of Work and Social Economy.

Starting today, it is not necessary for artists to prove their situation of lack of activity derived from COVID-19 due to the difficulties it poses for artistic workers. To calculate the days of activity that generate the right to the benefit, it will be computed from March 14, 2019 to March 14, 2020, considering this date as the legal unemployment situation and without the need to provide documentation.

Likewise, and in order to guarantee and facilitate immediate access to the benefit, the requirement of being in the period of voluntary inactivity is eliminated, eliminating the cost that this would entail for the worker.

In addition, it will be possible to suspend the payment of the benefit to carry out work on your own or someone else's (in coherence with the intermittency of the activity, and with the unemployment benefit regime itself) and resume it later.
