• "Spanish Television has ceased to be the main informative reference for Spaniards during the state of alarm"

The Popular Parliamentary Group has registered the request for the appearance of the sole Administrator of RTVE, Rosa María Mateo, in the parliamentary Commission of Control of the public Corporation, to explain “the measures it intends to adopt to reverse the precarious course of the acceptance of its emissions by citizens ”.

The parliamentarians who sign the initiative -Macarena Montesinos, Eduardo Carazo, Asier Antona, Tomás Cabezón, Javier Lacalle, Andrés Lorite, Rodrigo Mediavilla, Tristana Moraleja, Sergio Ramos, Carmen Riolobos, Amelia Salanueva and Antonio Silván- denounce the audience data of TVE last May "are alarming", and that "the situation is singularly precarious in the area of news, in which TVE is the last option among large television channels in all editions and days of the week" .

MANIPULATION AND GOVERNMENT DEPENDENCY

“Televisión Española has ceased to be the main informative reference for Spaniards during the state of alarm for COVID-19, when it always demonstrated its strength in the most momentous moments and events of our lives. A greater audiovisual consumption and greater potential of viewers due to confinement has produced, however, a very negative result and a growing social detachment from the offer and the role of this public chain. The numerous controversies and complaints about government manipulation or dependency have not contributed, on the contrary, to improving the perception and credibility of RTVE ”, explains the GPP initiative.

Finally, it is highlighted that “the bad data in the management of RTVE, the weakness of its audiences, the absence of a realistic and ambitious project that faces the
Technological challenges and new consumption have drawn a very worrying panorama on the horizon of this public service that puts its own viability in the future at risk ”.
