• The study has been proven false because the American university itself has denied it
The Popular Parliamentary Group has asked the Government, with a request for documents in Congress, a copy of the Johns Hopkins University report that the President of the Government, Pedro Sánchez, has boasted of, assuring that it placed Spain in the fifth position in the ranking of countries that have done the most number of tests on COVID-19. The alleged report has been denied even by the body itself that the chief executive quoted.
Specifically, the deputies who signed this initiative – the Deputy Secretary of the PP, Cuca Gamarra, the deputy spokesperson for the GPP José Ignacio Echániz and the Health spokesperson for the GPP, Elvira Velasco – demand from the Executive “the Johns Hopkins study cited by the President of the Government and the Minister of Health to place Spain among the countries in the world with the highest number of tests to detect coronaviruses (COVID-19) carried out ”.
It should be remembered that several international media, such as CNN, denied the existence of such a classification, accusing the Prime Minister of lying, and that it has been denied even by the university institution itself by not acknowledging its existence.
To this situation is added the recent rectification of the OECD that, after placing Spain in eighth place in the ranking in number of tests -which Sánchez also clung to in his appearances-, corrected this classification to relegate our country to the position number 17, after admitting that the data initially used for Spain included PCR and serological tests, when for the rest of the countries only the former were being taken into account.
